Video footage of METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo accepting the "Best Metal Performance" award for the song "My Apocalypse" during Sunday night's (February 8) pre-telecast ceremony at the 51st annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles can be viewed at this location.

METALLICA was nominated for several Grammys this year, including "Best Rock Instrumental Performance" for "Suicide & Redemption", and "Best Rock Album" for "Death Magnetic".

James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett elected to stay home and didn't attend the ceremony.

In his acceptance speech, Trujillo said, "Alright, Lars, James and Kirk have six of these or seven? So, I'll take this one. Anyway, thanks a lot. We appreciate you all. Thanks to the Academy and for everyone for believing in us and our instrumentals. Thank you."

METALLICA was nominated for the very first "Best Metal Performance" Grammy in 1989, but famously lost to JETHRO TULL. The group has won seven Grammys since (not counting tonight's award), including five for "Best Metal Performance."

The nominees in this year's "Metal" category were as follows:

SLIPKNOT - "Psychosocial"

Only albums released between October 1, 2007, and September 30, 2008, could be considered for this year's awards.

The Grammys are determined by 12,000 music industry professionals who belong to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
