Amazing Video Inside METALLICA Guitarist's Ghoulish Dungeon - Oct. 3, 2012
METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett recently spoke with Wired to promote this week's publication of "Too Much Horror Business: The Kirk Hammett Collection", a coffee table book featuring over 300 photos of Hammett's extensive horror memorabilia archives.
Hammett, who figures he has the second most extensive collection in the world, began his hobby at the age of six — years before he picked up a guitar.
Among his many treasures are Frankenstein masks, models of Japanese monsters Rodan and Ghidorah, vintage film posters from films like "The Day Of The Triffids" and "The Mummy", and much more.
Hammett said about the book, "I put my heart and soul into this book, and I'm really pleased with how it turned out . . . It really has been a labor of love, and I'm just very proud of it."
Hammett is also a huge geek when it comes to classic horror movies.
"The characters in the those movies had a lot of depth," Hammett says in the Wired video below. "I was always an outsider; I was always a little bit of an outcast and I was very nerdy. So I could relate to these monsters, these creatures, because they were the same way."
Hammett has two young children and he has been slowly showing them the monster movies he grew up on. He explained to the San Francisco Chronicle, "The other day (my kids and I) watched 'Bride Of Frankenstein', and they loved it."
He added that during a recent viewing of "Ghostbusters", "I said to the younger one, 'This is a little scary, but I'll be sitting right next to you.' And he goes, 'You don't have to do that, Dad. I'm tough.'"
Wired went deep inside Hammett's ghoulish dungeon to see his very cool, very creepy collection. Find out what lurks below in the video below.
